Steps of the city 1957-2017
Today's Avenue of Vukovar City is a metaphorical and physical polygon of socialist modernism where rebuilding of Zagreb after WWII began. In 1957. godine, then Avenue of the Proletarian Brigades was the locus of making propaganda films about the modern city in making.
60 years after making of the films "Koraci grada"/"Steps of the City" and "Kamerom kroz Zagreb"/"With Camera through Zagreb" the project questions the emergence of this avenue which also means commencing of the emergence of a new, socialist Zagreb, its relationship with the downtown center that it never managed to replace (though it was planned with that aim), as well as its usage nowadays. We start from these prolaganda films from 1957, over the films from 1967,1977, and 1987 which emphasize failures of its planning, until the reprezentations from 1997, 2007 and 2017, which is the means to acquire the diachronic sound and image of the topos.
June 15 to July 12, on three locations in Zagreb there will be program going on under the title Neighbourhood Cinema :: Steps of the City 1957 - 2017.
September 28 on the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences the lecture of the title "100 years of film. Between Revolution and Re-Membering Revolution" will be held by Gal Kirn, while the exhibition of the working title Media Representations :: Zagreb 1957 - 2017 will be taking place in Gallery Modulor, Center for Culture Trešnjevka, October 25 to November 11, 2017.
