The participants will have the opportunity to join legendary performance artist Katalin Ladik in an immersive workshop that explores the subtle relationships among voice, sound poetry, and body politics. Pioneering techniques and performative practice of Katalin Ladik potentially are the precious milestone for all who want to discover the transformative power of phonic action.

The importance of phonic action in the context of contemporary performance is still unknown territory. We can ask ourselves how can sound and movement transcend linguistic barriers to shared human experiences.

Participants will be able to learn about expressive power of sound poetry, with Katalin Ladik’s guidance through its place in her own history, its impact on body politics, and its relevance in today's artistic landscape.

KATALIN LADIK

The artist, actress, and poet Katalin Ladik (Novi Sad/Újvidék, 1942) is one of the key representatives of feminist and avant-garde performance in the world. She studied in the Drama Studio from 1964 to 1966, and prior to that, while working in a bank, she intensely engaged in writing poetry. From 1966 to 1974, she worked for Radio Novi Sad and then began working at the newly established Novi Sad Theatre, where she soon moved permanently and continued to work until moving to Budapest, where she has been living since 1992.

Ladik collaborated with the most significant composers of socialist Yugoslavia, such as Dubravko Detoni and the ACEZANTEZ ensemble. Katalin Ladik is the recipient of numerous awards, including the LennonOno Peace Grant (2016), an ocassion she used to redirect the monetary amount of the award to shelters for victims of violence.
